A brand new concealable body armor

I just picked up the latest 'Tactical Guns & Gear' from the local grocer yesterday. This is a quarterly mag put out by Guns and Ammo.

They had a great article about a new vest that's been developed by (for?) Safariland/BAE starting on page 46.

Here's the link to their website: http://www.safarilandarmorwear.com/

I called their customer service and they said they WOULD sell to civilians but I'm pretty sure this particular vest will be an arm and a leg. Probably upwards of $2k.

But, it's a new concept. The author was invited along with a lot of other personnel to try it on and then INVITED to shoot the piss out of it.

An interesting side note is the fabric is treated with a 'silver ion' that keeps the smell of sweat from wearing one for 12 hours or more down to a minimum. Why? Because, according to Safariland/BAE, the silver ion that they impregnate in their fiber stops bacteria from growing. You know, that's the smelly stuff, bacteria.

He says it wears like a level II vest while providing level IIIA protection. he said it EVEN STOPPED 7.62x25, .357 mag, and other hot handgun rounds (except around the very edge of the vest - where it appears to pass through from lack of material). Not he did NOT say it would stop larger rifle rounds.

Anyway, seems like an interesting piece of equipment. Might have to pick one up.

Your link is to the main page. What is the name of the new armor?

UL,
Sorry. Click on products. Either of the vest on that page show it.

OR go down the the bottom of the page and look for 'BAE systems' and click on that link.

It should bring it right up.

If not, let me know and I'll see what else I can find. I HAVE scanned in the article and will be willing to post or email them to you. But fair warning, it's six pages scanned so it's a large set of files.

I guess you'd better send it, because I'm not seeing it on the BAE site either.
